Making a case for increased resources

Drug users are competing for resources locally with a range of other client groups, and are usually not a ‘popular’ group with the local electorate because of the association between drug use and crime/broken families in the national and local press.

When attempting to gain access to resources to develop new housing services, it is important to stress the many benefits to be gained from investment in services for drug users, and what this will mean not only for the individuals concerned, but also their families and local communities.

This section of the Toolkit gives guidance on how to identify key local stakeholders who you will need to influence, and provides references to evidence of the benefits of investing in housing for drug users. To go to these two sections click on the links on the right of this page.
