SHP is opening a service for chaotic drug users in Islington based on its existing successful service in the Kings Cross area of London. The service will have high levels of staffing and security facilities to enable it to work with those with multiple needs who present a risk to themselves or the community and who have often been excluded from other services. There will be controlled access to the building and no visitors will be allowed. Women can be accommodated on a separate floor within the hostel. The intended length of stay is 3-6 months with move on to supported accommodation for drug users. There will be strong emphasis on meaningful occupation for residents and close partnership working with treatment agencies working with this group.
